Understanding the Cost of a Wedding Photographer in the UK
What’s Included in Wedding Photographer Prices?
Whilst the cost of a wedding photographer may seem like a lot for just one day, it’s important to remember that they are not ‘just’ working for one day. There’s so much more involved than being at the venue taking photos and there are also hidden costs that photographers have to incorporate into their prices.
There are three stages to a wedding photographer’s services: Pre-wedding (preparing for the big day, ensuring all details are finalised with you and possibly visiting the venue), the Wedding Day (travelling to the venue and capturing the beautiful moments of the day); and Post-Production (editing all photos in the photographer’s style). The Post-Production stage is the one that generally takes the most time, sometimes multiple days depending on personal editing style and the amount of photos. So already, you can understand from this that the service cannot be priced solely for one day.
There are also hidden costs that have to be included in pricing, such as insurance, software subscriptions for photo editing, equipment manintancnce and marketing. For photographers like me that include travel and accommodation in their pricing, this can take up a significant portion of their income.
Why Cost Can Vary So Much Between Photographers
Prices for wedding photographers can vary from free all the way to £4,000+. This cost can vary significantly due to a range of factors, such as experience and the value photographers put on their work, as well as specialised equipment, location and the time they invest in post-production.
Some photographers may also offer extra products in their pricing, such as photo albums. Although be careful to always make sure you don’t solely base your decision on what extras a photographer includes - it’s important to consider it alongside whether you like their photography style, the quality of their photos and of course, your budget.
What Is the Average Cost of a Wedding Photographer in the UK?
Typical Price Ranges for Different Budgets
According to Bridebook, most couples spend between £1,200 and £2,500 for full-day coverage, with the UK average being £1,484.
If you're wanting to spend a smaller proportion of your budget on a wedding photographer, a beginner or budget photographer can cost between £500-£1,000. For the average professional wedding photographer, they will cost between £1,200 and £2,000. If you’ve got a bigger budget and want to invest a big proportion of your budget to the photography, a high-end photographer can typically cost between £2,000 - £3,000+.

Flexible Options: Choosing a Wedding Photographer That Fits Your Budget
Half-Day vs Full-Day Coverage Prices
Let’s say you’ve found a photographer you absolutely love and couldn’t imagine anyone else photographing your wedding, it’s always important to ask them if they offer shorter coverage options, as opposed to only a full day package. For example, whilst I offer full-day coverage, I also offer shorter coverages by the hour (minimum 3 hours), which are designed for any budget.
Bespoke coverage
Every wedding is different and not all will fit into the pricing packages offered by photographers, so even if it looks like the photographer only offers certain coverage options, make sure to check if they will provide a bespoke quote for you - there’s never any harm asking the question!
How to Get the Most Value From Your Budget
In all honesty, your budget is probably the biggest driver when it comes to decision making. In order to get the most value from your budget, you need to pair your budget consideration with how much value you want to put on the photography. If photography is more important to you than live music, put more of your budget towards the photographer and vice versa.
Secondly, make sure the photographer you are choosing is the right one for you. You may have found a photographer that is cheaper, includes over 1000 photos and an album… but if the quality of their work is not good, you will feel disappointed and the money you spent will never feel worth it.
If you know what photographer you want but can’t afford their full day coverage, have a think about what parts of the day are the most important to you and whether you’re happy to sacrifice the parts least important for the sake of booking the photographer you want.

A Flexible, Stress-Free Approach
As a documentary wedding photographer, my consistent aim is to capture the most important, magical and beautiful moments of the most special day of your life, without any interruption, because these moments don’t need interruption from a photographer. They naturally come from the happiness and utter joy you and your guests radiate throughout the day.
Having me as your wedding photographer means you won’t have to worry about when you need to stop talking to your grandparent or best friend to go and take photos. I’ll be there in the most un-obtrusive way capturing the real story of your day as you share it and make memories with your loved ones.
Consistent High-Quality Results You Can Trust
When you’re investing in a North West wedding photographer, consistency matters just as much as creativity. Anyone can capture a few great shots on a good day - but your wedding only happens once, and you need to know every important moment will be documented beautifully.
I focus on delivering a high standard across your entire gallery - from the big moments like your ceremony and first dance, to the smaller, in-between moments you didn’t even realise were happening. Every image is carefully edited in a consistent style, so your final gallery feels natural, cohesive, and timeless.
With experience photographing weddings in all kinds of conditions across the North West - from bright coastal sunshine to unpredictable mountain weather - you can feel confident that your photos will look incredible no matter what the day brings.
My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive, allowing genuine moments to unfold while still guiding you when needed to get the best possible results. The goal is simple: natural, high-quality images that feel like you, not staged or forced.
If you’re comparing wedding photographer prices, it’s worth looking beyond just cost and asking one key question: will I receive a consistently high-quality gallery that i’ll love in 10-20+ years time? That’s exactly what I aim to deliver for every couple.
